WebOffice author is able to open a project configuration without having the underlying ArcMap document opened. Instead only ArcMap with an empty (new) document needs to be opened.

 

 

 

Note that Layer references and Field references can not and must not be changed in order to avoid configuration inconsistencies.

 

It is recommended to use this feature just for quickly changing any configuration attributes but Map services, Layer references or Field references.

Recommendation for working with different ArcMap documents: Working with ArcMap and ArcMap documents is much faster

 

•if you do not end ArcMap and start it up again (starting ArcMap application from scratch may take some time, instead opening different ArcMap documents from already running ArcMap application is fast) double clicking an ArcMap document file (.mxd) in e.g. Windows Explorer or ArcCatalog whenever you want to open a different mxd,

•but instead open different ArcMap documents using the File --> Open respectively File --> New functions of ArcMap.
