Map Collection

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The map collection specifies the list of map services available in the WebOffice 10.8 SP2 clients by default.

It is possible to combine map services from various sources:

ArcGIS Server Map Service: An ArcGIS map service hosted on a server on premise

ArcGIS Server Image Service: An ArcGIS image service hosted on a server or online

ArcGIS Server Feature Service: An ArcGIS feature service hosted on a server or online

ArcGIS Online Service: ArcGIS resources from ArcGIS Online

OGC Map Service (WMS): with this type of map service it is possible to provide WMS data

OGC Map Service (WMTS): use this type of map service to provide WMTS data

BING Map Service: map service used for projecting the BING map images

OpenStreetMap Tile Server: map service used for projecting the OSM map images

Note: If combining caches and dynamic services, the dynamic services must be configured in Table of Content (TOC) or Map Views on the top, so that the WebOffice 10.8 SP2 client can request the cache tiles.

Note: As tiling scheme, the cached map service in WebOffice 10.8 SP2 is used, which is at the top of the map collection. VertiGIS recommends, however, to strive for the highest possible level of coverage at discrete scale levels, as otherwise it may happen that all other map services are combined in a dynamic image from the point in the table of content where inconsistencies occur

Note: If using caches of type 'cache on demand', the map services will be used as cached map services, although the first map request of an un-cached area will return a dynamically generated image.

The map collection provides some properties to better control handling of the map services:

Map collection configuration

Map collection configuration

Property

Description

Main map

Specifies the default map service of the map collection. The default map service is characterized by:

It provides the main content to the map collection,

It must be available. If not then WebOffice 10.8 SP2 clients displays an error page and ends the user session,

Must be a service of type ArcGIS Server Map Service

Provide discrete scale levels

Specifies if only discrete, fixed map scales are available for dynamic map services (Yes).

Note: Explicitly provided discrete scale levels will be displayed in any case. In combination with cached map services there can arise the following cases:

- a) A discrete scale level is defined that is not supported by the cached map service and lies beyond available LOD (Level Of Detail) levels of this cached map service (e.g. very large scales). When selecting this scale, the concerned cached map service will not be displayed.

- b) A discrete scale level is defined that is not supported by the cached map service and lies within the available LOD levels of the cached map service . When selecting this scale, the concerned map service will be integrated dynamically.

- c) The cached map service is displayed dynamically in all LOD levels due to a different projection, then the service will be displayed in all provided discrete scale levels.

Note: For a detailed scenario of combining a cached map service with a dynamic map service of different scale, please, see chapter Extend discrete Scales of an external Service.

Note: In WebOffice flex (flash) client the configured discrete scale levels will be ignored if they are contrary to existing scale levels of cached map services.

Discrete scale levels

List of discrete scale levels. Is only used if "Provide discrete scale levels" is set to "Yes".

If e.g. scale levels 1000, 2500, 5000, 10000 should be available in the WebOffice client then specify 1000|2500|5000|10000 as configuration value.

Note: Bing maps and OSM use the following LOD levels:

9244648.868621042|4622324.434310521|2311162.2171552605|1155581.1085776302|577790.5542888151|288895.27714440756|144447.63857220378|72223.81928610189|36111.909643050945|18055.954821525473|9027.977410762736|4513.988705381368|2256.994352690684|1128.497176|564.248588172671|282.1242940863355|141.06214704316776|70.53107355442746

Note: In WebOffice flex (flash) client the configured discrete scale levels will be ignored if they are contrary to existing scale levels of cached map services.

Allow user input of scale levels?

Allow the user to input scale levels in WebOffice core client. This is only possible if there are only dynamic services configured in the project.
