Activate Add Images

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Follow the instructions in this chapter to activate Add Images functionality for the WebOffice 10.8 SP2 Sample Project. The functionality is configured in the project configuration but turned off by default since there have to be done some adjustments. First of all, keep in mind that you can only activate the Add Images function if you can fulfill the general prerequisites:

a valid WebOffice 10.8 SP2 advanced license (including the web editing module)

a working enterprise geodatabase (Advantages: Many readers and many writers as well as DBMS size limits)

Note: You can only activate Add Images if you already have a working WebOffice Sample Project. If this is not the case, start with chapter Publish Map Documents instead.

Copy WebOffice Sample Project Add Images Data

You will need the following files from the WebOffice10.8-DVD:

WebOffice10.8-DVD\SampleProject\WebOffice directories Add-On\ServiceDocuments\SampleProject\Data.zip

WebOffice10.8-DVD\SampleProject\WebOffice directories Add-On\ServiceDocuments\SampleProject\UploadGeotaggedImages.mxd

WebOffice10.8-DVD\SampleProject\WebOffice directories Add-On\WebOfficeUpload

WebOffice10.8-DVD\SampleProject\Project\UploadSamples\GeotaggedImages

Add Images sample data can be found in the WebOffice10.8-DVD under WebOffice10.8-DVD\SampleProject\WebOffice directories Add-On\ServiceDocuments\SampleProject\Data.zip\Data\UploadGeotaggedImages.gdb. In a first step you have to unzip the file and copy (or import) the feature classes into your prepared enterprise geodatabase.

In the second step copy the folder WebOfficeUpload, to be found in the directory WebOffice10.8-DVD\SampleProject\WebOffice directories Add-On, into C:\arcgisserver\directories\. This folder contains four images that are used to display the images linked to already existing features in the UploadGeotaggedImages.gdb.

Note: If you already have a WebOfficeUpload folder in the respective location, just copy the image files.

Configure the Virtual Directory in IIS

In order to display images that are saved in the WebOfficeUpload folder in WebOffice 10.8 SP2, create a virtual directory in the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. Open the default web site and create the virtual directory from the context menu.

Note: The user IUSR have to be granted full access (write, modify and read permissions) to access the configured folder. This can be configured within the properties of the desired folder via the ribbon 'Security'.

Adjust the SampleProject_UploadGeotaggedImages.mxd and Publish the Map Service

In a next step copy the MXD document SampleProject_UploadGeotaggedImages.mxd from the folder WebOffice10.8-DVD\SampleProject\Project\mxds into your ServiceDocuments directory (e.g. <ArcGIS Server location>\directories\ServiceDocuments). Then open the Layer Properties and set the data sources to the enterprise geodatabase feature classes.

If not done yet, register your enterprise database on the ArcGIS Server via ArcGIS Server Properties.

Finally save the map document and publish it. Leave the default service name but choose to publish service to folder SampleProject as described in chapter Publish Map Documents. Ignore the warning about the different projection of the layer's data source.

Activate Add Images in the WebOffice Sample Project

Start WebOffice author and open the WebOffice_SampleProject. Navigate to EDIT > Tools > Add Images and change the parameter Use tool? to 'Yes'.

Note: If you saved the WebOfficeUpload folder to another location than C:\arcgisserver\directories, you also have to adjust the path in 'Save path on App Server'.

Activate the upload geotagged images tool in the WebOffice author

Check in EXTRAS > URL whether the Url to your virtual WebOfficeUpload directory is correct. Then save the project configuration and publish the project.

Finally, open SynAdmin and reload the resources of the WebOffice_SampleProject in order to make the new map service available. Now the Add Images functionality is available in the WebOffice 10.8 SP2 clients. You can also switch to map view 'Uploaded Geotagged Images' and use the MapTip tool to display the already existing images in the project.
