Using ArcMap it is possible to configure a specific selection renderer for a certain layer. WebOffice 10 R3 uses this selection renderer definition for rendering selections on this layer.

For configuring the layer selection renderer in ArcMap open the Layer Properties dialog and navigate to the Selection tab:

When configuring specific Selection renderers there are a few recommendations/aspects you should take into consideration:

Do not mix various different selection renderer styles and colors for different layers. This makes selections hard to interpret for the user and is not user friendly at all. A general guideline is to always use the same colors throughout the map document.

ArcMap renders selections always on top of the map. So do not use selection renderers that are 100% opaque. The user would not see the map behind the selection. Use e.g. line fill symbols instead. Take this recommendation into consideration whenever configuring polygon selection renderers.

ArcMap is able to render rather complex renderers. Anyway use of simple and light weight renderers is recommended. This ensures fast selection rendering. Quick response of the WebOffice 10 R3 client is one of the most important requirements when considering user acceptance.
