In this chapter you will find some important recommendations on how to manage and organize your ArcMap document files.

 

•ArcGIS Server Standard, in difference to ArcIMS, does not create an internal copy of the published map document, but at any point of time refers to the map document file in the file system.

•ArcGIS Server Standard at least once in 24 hours recycles each of its Server Object Container (SOC) processes.

 

Note: Recycling means that the Server Object Container process gets stopped, deleted and created again by the Server Object Manager (SOM) process. During recreation of the Server Object Container process, the map document in the file system is accessed and read.
