Polling:

Polling stands for a geolocation tool mechanism which enhances the result of the geolocation process. The parameters are to be configured directly in the tool Geolocation of the project configuration (relevant parameters are Required Position Accuracy [m] and Maximum Wait Time [s]).

Configuration of the polling mechanism

Configuration of the polling mechanism

Polling describes the mechanism which leads to geolocation request every 5 seconds:

In case a geolocation with the configured accuracy has been found the polling mechanism ends and the position will be displayed in the WebOffice mobile client.

In case the result is less accurate than configured the geolocation detection via polling continues until the configured accuracy has been achieved.

oIf the configured accuracy cannot be achieved at all, the polling mechanism will be canceled after exceeding the maximum wait time.

In order to activate polling the Required Position Accuracy [m] has to be configured. By default the value is set to 0, therefore, polling will not be used. In case the value is changed to, e.g. 25 m, every 5 seconds a geolocation request will sent. If the result of the geolocation request is not within the 25 meters, geolocation requests continue every 5 seconds.

The parameter Maximum Wait Time [s] defines the time limit until the geolocation requests via polling will be canceled. It is needed if a position within the configured accuracy (e.g. 25 m) cannot be achieved. In the figure above, geolocation requests will continue 45 seconds at most. After this time has elapsed the geolocation request will be canceled and the result with the best accuracy will be displayed.

Note: The required position accuracy also depends on the accuracy of the mobile device. For iOS and Android devices an accuracy of 25 m should be adequate.
