Before starting the actual migration several important steps have to be completed before, beginning with the assessment. Assessment consists out of the three sub-parts Choice of Migration Scenario, Hardware and Software Requirements and License Requirements. Thinking about these issues in advance allows you to ensure that a successful migration will be possible and you will not get stuck at any moment later on.
Choice of Migration Scenario
In a first step it is essential to select the migration scenario that you want to conduct. Depending on the available resources for your organization you can choose one of three potential migration scenarios listed below (form lowest to highest potential risk):
| 1. | Retain WebOffice 10R3 on the current machine and deploy WebOffice 10.2 on a new machine |
| 2. | Establish a WebOffice 10.2 prototype on a development machine, then migrate the production machine to WebOffice 10.2 |
| 3. | Upgrade the production machine to WebOffice 10.2 |

Potential migration sencarios
Option 1 is rated the safest migration scenario because it preserves the WebOffice 10R3 system while setting up the new WebOffice 10.2 system. Existing GIS services and WebOffice 10R3 projects are still active and, therefore, can be compared to the new ones. Option 2 serves as a compromise, where the new system is set up on a development machine while the old system is preserved. The old system will only be unavailable for a short time, when the new WebOffice 10.2 system is transferred from the development to the production machine.
On the contrary with option 3 all important files have to be backed up before. Since ArcGIS 10.0 and WebOffice 10R3 have to be uninstalled in advance to installation of ArcGIS 10.2 for Server and WebOffice 10.2, all information regarding services and configurations have to be documented in detail before. Also be aware that in contrast to option 1, your WebOffice 10.2 projects will not be available during the migration process when migrating on a single server. Therefore, executing a migration on a single server should only be done if no further resources (hardware and software) are available.
Hardware and Software Requirements
After the migration scenario has been chosen make sure that your server meets the hardware and software requirements for ArcGIS 10.2 for Server and WebOffice 10.2.
Note: See chapter Operating System (OS) for details.
License Requirements
Also check whether the necessary licenses for ArcGIS 10.2 for Desktop, ArcGIS 10.2 for Server and WebOffice 10.2 are available and valid.
Note: See chapter Licensing for details.
