Add WMS Service in WebOffice core Client

Add WMS Service in WebOffice core Client

The tool WMS Service basically offers three options for adding a WMS service:

Entering a WMS URL

Selecting a WMS from a predefined list

Search in a CSW catalog (metadata keyword search in the catalog service)

Note: The last two options are not considered if neither a list of predefined services nor a CSW catalog is specified in the WebOffice 10.9 R4 Project Configuration.

Entering a WMS URL

Enter a correct URL of the WMS map service in the field provided. Optionally the map service name (name displayed in the table of content) and/or a username and password can also be entered.

Selection of predefined services

Predefined Services are listet in the middle box of the tool window. Select the service which you want to add to the project and change the name of the map service name if necessary. By clicking the button core_Add_WMS_Service9 additional meta information of the WMS Service can be displayed.

Search in CSW Catalog

In addition a WMS service can be added by a search in a CSW catalog. To do this you have to enter a search term in the field Search Services by Keyword. Optionally the parameter Consider Current Extent can be activated to only show those services that are relevant for the map area. By clicking the button Search in Catalog all services that match the search criteria are listed.

Add Service

No matter which option is selected, clicking the button Add Service adds the desired Service to the WebOffice 10.9 R4 project. If Set layers visible initially is not activated, the WMS Service is not visible in the map image - until it is manually set to visible in the table of content.

Note: If a WMS Service has a large number of different layers and its topics are initially set to visible, only 10 layers are activated in the table of content by default. This is due to the fact that too many activated layers of a WMS service would have a negative effect on the generation of the map image (time until the final structure of the map image) and that too many activated layers would result in an unstructured map image.

The service is added dynamically to the table of content. Via the context menu, the service can be moved within the table of content, some map service properties (e.g. degree of transparency) can be changed or the map service can be removed.

In the table of content there are further options when the context menu is opened on a layer or topic. For example, the feature information of a specific WMS-layer can be made identifyable.

Note: For the correct Query the option GetFeatureIndo in the GetCapabilitiesRequest of the corresponding WMS service must be available.

This function has the effect that the tool Identify opens and the layer is already preselected as the identification topic. Thus it is now possible to query attribute information of this layer by clicking in the map. The information is then displayed in the results list.

It is often very useful to have the legend of the WMS-Layer displayed. This is possible by clicking on the Show Legend function in the context menu of the corresponding WMS-Layer in the table of content.

Note: The WMS Service must support the GetLegendGraphic operation.

If a WMS service has been added dynamically, it can be useful to save this service for later reuse. The tool Add to Bookmarks can be used to save the current state of the WebOffice core client. If the URL created by WebOffice 10.9 R4 is opened later, the WMS service is added to the map. The layer visibility settings are also saved.
