Under the element Measurement tye you can define how distances and areas are to be measured in the WebOffice 10.9 R4 project.

You can choose between planar and geodesic measurement type which is considered by the following tools:

When planar measurement is used, distances and surfaces are calculated mathematically using a two-dimensional coordinate system. Therefore, this type of measurement is only possible if a projected coordinate system is given. In comparison with the geodesic measurement, the planar measurement is less accurate, since projected maps always have a area and/or length distortion, and measurements are carried out on the base of these projected coordinate systems.

When geodesic measurement is used, the shortest line between 2 points of the earth's surface is determined using an ellipsoid. This type of measurement is more accurate than planar measurement, since no length or area distortions influence the measurement result.

Depending on the projection for the main map service of the WebOffice 10.9 R4 project, different measurement types are supported:

The measurement type geodesic is only available in the WebOffice core client and the WebOffice flex client, since this function was implemented via the ArcGIS API for JavaScript 4.x in WebOffice 10.9 R4. Since WebOffice 10.9 R4 geodesic measurement is also supported for 3D measurement.

Coordinates can only be re-projected on the client side if the browser supports WebAssembly. An overview of which browsers support this can be found here. In browsers without WebAssembly, WebOffice 10.9 R4 can only be used for geodesic measurements if the main map service is in a geographical coordinate system (e.g. WGS84).
