Before calculating a cache, it is strongly recommended to develop a tiling scheme of the scale levels in which navigation should be possible. For storage and cache creation reasons it is rarely necessary to calculate a cache for all (especially the big) scales.
We recommend setting your visible scale levels in the mxd to the range you want to use the cache in your WebOffice 10 R3 project. This way no cache tiles are requested by the application outside the visible scales.
To save storage and cache creation time you can create cache tiles for your visible scales only, but use more scale levels as tiling scheme, by using the Geoprocessing Tools from the Caching Toolset.
Example:
You have cadastral data you want to cache and dynamic project information you only want to display in small scales. The project information should be displayed as overlay of the cadastral data.
Step 1: Get a tiling scheme for your whole project e.g. 1:100000 – 1:500
Because cadastral information are few enough on 1:500 and storage for a cache in 1:500 would be big it is enough to cache tiles up to 1:5000.
Step 2: Set your visible scale ranges in your cadastral data frame to 1:100000 to 1:5000
Step 3: Create a tiling scheme using the Generate Map Server Cache Tiling Scheme Geoprocessing Tool from 1:100000 to 1:500
Step 4: Create a cache for the cadastral data frame using the generated tiling scheme but do not generate tiles by now!
Step 5: Generate the tiles for the visible scale range (1:100000 – 1:5000) using the Manage Map Server Cache Tiles Geoprocessing Tool.
