With WebOffice 10.9 SP2 it is possible to add the content of an OpenStreetMap Tile Server (also referred to as OSM) provider to your configuration. As subelements of an OSM tile server it is possible to configure
Important information about the use of usage of OpenStreetMap tile servers:
VertiGIS GmbH gives you the technical possibility to add content from tile servers that support the OpenStreetMap Slippy Map Tiling Scheme.
If none of the public OpenStreetMap Tile Servers is to be used but instead a local copy, then the customer itself is fully responsible for setting up an arrangement (terms of use) with OpenStreetMap for using this local copy within the WebOffice context. The customer itself is fully responsible for setting up a local copy of an OpenStreetMap Tile Server.
The customer has to be aware of the usage policy of every tile server provider.
If the customer decides to use a tile server providing content under the OpenStreetMap usage policy and reprojects (uses) the tiles into another coordinate system as provided by the tile service provider, VertiGIS interprets this is derivative work in terms of OSM usage policy! This means, that according to the share alike attribution (see http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ for details) every published output (print, report, service, application) with OSM contents, needs to be published under the same license and usage policy. Due to the interpretation of the OSM usage policy by VertiGIS, publishing and restricting the usage of derivative work containing OSM content is not allowed! See also: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/, http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/legal-talk, http://www.osmfoundation.org/wiki/License/Contributor_Terms_Summary, http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tile_usage_policy.
Notice that legal information and usage policy of OSM are subject to change!
Whenever a new OpenStreetMap tile server is added to the WebOffice 10.9 SP2 project configuration
•configure the corresponding Reference to Map Service of Map Collection in the table of content (mandatory)
•configure the corresponding reference to map service of map collection in the Map View (optionally)

OpenStreetMap tile server configuration
Property |
Description |
Service name (GUI) |
Service name of Map Service displayed in the GUI. The usage of a service name in the GUI is not mandatory but strongly recommended when using a OSM tile server! |
Metadata URL |
Configure a reference to a metadata document (must be available via HTTP) as URL. Note: You may configure the unique Metadata document identifier (UUID) of a Catalog Service (CSW 2.0) here. In this case you must configure the SOAP interface of the Catalog Services in Metadata Display. |
Metadata short description |
Provide a short description for the metadata (line breaks with \n"). |
Copyright |
Service specific copyright text to be added to the configured project copyright if the map service contributes to the map. This information is only displayed on the print. OpenStreetMap services always have a standard copyright text displayed. Note: The service specific copyright will only be displayed if the map element Copyright is configured. Note: Detailed information about the use of these attributes can be found in chapters Template (File Name) and WebOffice ePaper Template (File Name). |
Server |
Specify base URL of OpenStreetMap (OSM) tile server to be used. The subdomains used have to be specified separately. The OpenStreetMap (OSM) tile server is required to provide the tiles according to the specification given under http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Slippy_map_tilenames
Inform yourself about usage policy of the tile services! Contact the tile service provide if a clarification on the tile usage policy is required!
Information about different tile service providers can e.g be found here: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/TMS http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Featured_tiles
Note: WebOffice 10.9 SP2 also supports the use of OSM tiles via HTTPS. If the subdomains do not possess an open SSL certificate, then a performance decrease may happen when using OSM tiles via HTTPS without subdomains. |
Subdomains |
Specifies the list of subdomains (different subdomains to be separated by |") to be used for retrieving the tiles from the OpenStreetMap (OSM) tile server. Subdomains are used for retrieving tiles faster. Note: There are OSM contents which are not obtainable via subdomains in combination with HTTPS. For example, tiles of Geofabrik cannot be attained with HTTPS via subdomains. However, in order to have a valid configuration, configure tile as the subdomain parameter. E.g., a configuration for Geofabrik tiles https://tile.geofabrik.de/5fb573bce2ecc2052b58bd4e3b11414f using HTTPS has to be configured in WebOffice author as follows:
|
Use like dynamic service? |
Specifies, whether the service is used like a dynamic map service (Yes) or not (No). Note: Can be useful for the following matters: •Ignoring the tiling schemes of a map service in order to use scales, that are not included in the tiling scheme •OSM Services only expose cached behavior in the original OSM coordinate system, therefore this attribute is relevant in that case only. |
Timeout [ms] |
Specifies the time [in milliseconds] to wait for the response of the map service to ensure the client always responds in a guaranteed time. If the map service does not provide a response within this time limit, then the request is canceled and the web application proceeds. In that case, the web application considers the map service as not available. |
Server normalized |
Shows the normalized OSM URL (will be filled automatically). |
Check tile: |
Specify tile (level of detail/X/Y) to be checked when initializing the OpenStreetMap service. Example: 0/0/0 Note: Some services do not provide all scales of the slippy tile scheme, specify an existing tile then to ensure proper service initialization. Note: Detailed Information about zoom levels, X and Y can be found in http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Slippy_map_tilenames. |
OpenStreetMap tile server properties
Note: An easy way to configure an OpenStreetMap Tile Server is by using the wizard Add Service.
Note: If your application does not have direct access to the internet, be sure to configure your proxy settings in WebOffice 10.9 SP2 application configuration for proper BING Map Service functionality. See chapter Proxy-Server for HTTP Requests.
Note: See chapter ArcGIS Server Output Service for details about the configuration of ArcGIS Server output services.
Note: See chapter Configure OpenStreetMap Tile Server for information how to find out the needed subdomains.
