Explanation of the 3 states of the Product Life Cycle:
•General Availability: availability of the release together with a definition of certified software components (system requirements)
•Mature: new major release available, no more current patches/hot fixes, fixes of severe or operation-impeding errors (evaluation is performed by the distributor) only if the customer provides an adequate reason not to upgrade to the next product version.
•Retired: after about 12 months of mature phase, fixes for retired products are generally with costs, the evaluation of operation-impeding errors is performed by the distributor
