By configuring Thematic Style you can activate styles of a layer (which were configured as styles in the course of the Simple Thematic Mapping) for the Table of Content (TOC), as well as for Map Views and Basemaps.

Applies a thematic Style to a layer. Even if all the available styles are offered, only the selection of a style associated to the layer is permitted.

If neither the Thematic Style, nor the Default Style is configured, there is no change of the style when changing the basemap/map view. Thus, the previous style remains active.
