Installation & configuration


VertiGIS GmbH recommends to create a detailed documentation of the installation including screenshots of important settings and updates of potential changes later on. This way, troubleshooting in case of failure can be done a lot easier and faster.


There are two typical installation scenarios for WebOffice 10.9 SP1:

Single server scenario: All software components are installed on one server

Distributed server scenario: Software components are distributed on multiple server machines


In the names of all subsequent chapters concerning installation, you will find an indication where the particular software component gets installed. Possible locations for installing a software component in a distributed server scenario are

Application server (where Java OpenJDK 11, Apache Tomcat and WebOffice 10.9 SP1 resides on)

GIS Server (where ArcGIS Server and WebOffice extensions processes run on)

Administrative computer (where ArcGIS Desktop as well as WebOffice author standalone are installed for administering and authoring the projects and services)


The basic installation process in the distributed server scenario is similar to the single server scenario, it is just the software components that get installed to various different machines.

The main difference between the two scenarios is the post installation and configuration process that needs to be done after installation has finished.

Please contact your corresponding WebOffice Support Team if you want to run WebOffice 10.9 SP1 and ArcGIS Server in a distributed server scenario.


In order to successfully install WebOffice 10.9 SP1 with all its modules, please, work in sequence through the subsequent sections of the Installation chapter!

WebOffice 10.9 SP1 also allows an automatic installation under certain circumstances. This automatic setup does not install all components on the server, which is why manual adaptions are necessary. Detailed information about the automatic installation and the corresponding limiting factors can be found in chapter Automatic Installation.

During installation, observe the necessary access permissions as listed in the WebOffice Permissions chapter.
